Suns' "You've Been Ticketed" begins
May 8, 2006 - South Atlantic League (SAL1) - Hagerstown Suns News Release
The Hagerstown Suns and First Data have partnered once again and are excited to announce the "You've Been Ticketed" program. The program aims to reward individuals for getting "caught" doing random good deeds and "ticketing" them with a Hagerstown Suns game ticket.
With First Data's support, the Hagerstown Suns have donated free game tickets to five local agencies: the Hagerstown Fire Department, Hagerstown Police Department, Washington County Sheriff's Department, Maryland State Police and Community Rescue Service. Each agency will spontaneously distribute the tickets to individuals who, on their own, are witnessed helping others or perform good deeds. Each agency has received 500 tickets to start, but they are able to receive as many as needed for the summer-long campaign.
"We simply want to encourage community thoughtfulness and caring," said Suns President & General Manager Kurt Landes. "We consider ourselves as caring corporate citizens and we're in a unique business that can reward individuals for helping others. This is a fun and unique initiative that will make a positive impact one person at a time."
Examples of some acts that can be "ticketed" by officers of the participating agencies are:
- getting "caught" picking up trash on a sidewalk
- rewarding kids for using assigned skateboard areas
- graciously helping a senior citizen or disabled individual cross the street
The "You've Been Ticketed" program was initiated in 2005 with great success. Nearly 3,000 tickets were distributed during the 2005 summer campaign encouraging area residents to help others.
The Hagerstown Suns, are a Class-A affiliate of the New York Mets. The Suns are owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties. For more information, contact the Suns at 301.791.6266 or visit the Suns website at www.hagerstownsuns.com.
