Suns Take Series with Saturday Win

Montgomery, Ala. - Chris Hatcher went three-for-three, including the game-winning homerun in the seventh inning, leading the Jacksonville Suns (19-10) past the Montgomery Biscuits (16-13) 7-2 in front of 7,223 Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Jeff Allison (2-1) picked up the winning decision, giving up a run and three hits with a walk and a strikeout over five innings of work. Montgomery starter David Newmann (1-1) fell in the losing decision, giving up two runs and six hits over five innings, the longest start for any Montgomery pitcher in the series.

The Suns opened the scoring with a pair of first inning runs. Mark Saccomanno drew a bases loaded walk to bring home Lorenzo Scott for a 1-0 score. Ryan Curry next rolled into a double play, scoring Ozzie Martinez for a 2-0 lead.

Montgomery got on the board for the first time in the third inning. Drew Anderson led off with a triple and scored on a John Matulia sacrifice fly, cutting the Suns lead to 2-1.

The teams traded seventh inning runs. Chris Hatcher led off the Suns half of the inning with his first homerun of the season before another Matulia sac fly cut the Suns lead to 3-2.

In the eighth inning, Hatcher struck again with an RBI single, driving in Ryan Curry with two out for a 4-2 score.

Jacksonville capped off the night in the ninth inning as Mark Saccomanno blasted his first homerun of the season, a two-run shot for a 6-2 lead. Later with two out, Matt Dominguez connected for his second homerun of the season, ending the scoring at 7-2.

Suns Offense: Hatcher led the way in the ninth spot of the order, with a three-for-three effort and a walk. Mark Saccomanno extended his hit streak to 10 games with a ninth inning, two-run homerun, his first of the season. Matt Dominguez also hit a ninth inning homerun, his second of the season.
