Hagerstown Suns News Release

Justin Bloxom and Francisco Soriano led the Hagerstown Suns (33-33) to a double-header sweep of the Asheville Tourists (27-38) on Wednesday. Hagerstown won the first game 5-4 and the second game 5-2.

Soriano, the Suns shortstop, got things going in the first game with a one-out single in the top of the first inning. Two batters later, Bloxom drove Soriano in with a single to right side.

The lead did not last, as Nolan Arenado hit a three-run home run off Suns starter Graham Hicks, giving Asheville a 3-1 lead.

After two walks and a single brought about a run in the third for Hagerstown, three hits and two walks in the third for Asheville took the score to 4-2.

In the seventh, and final, inning the Suns finally got going. With two outs, Soriano hit his first home run of the season to bring the Suns within one run. After third baseman Steven Souza singled, Bloxom hit a long home run to right-center field, giving the Suns the 5-4 lead.

Luis Garcia (1-0) earned the win for the Suns with three scoreless innings of work out of the bullpen.

Chad Rose (5-4) took the loss by allowing all three runs in the seventh inning.

Game two picked up right where game one left off for the Suns. Jeff Kobernus led off with a single and two batters later Bloxom, the Suns first baseman, homered to right field to put the Suns on top 2-0. The home run was Bloxom's fourth of the season, and the first baseman has now homered in four consecutive games.

Bloxom was not through yet, as he tacked on three more hits, during the Suns 5-2 victory.

Paul Demny got the start for the Suns and worked five strong innings, allowing just two runs and earning the win. Rob Wort worked the final inning for his fifth save of the season.
