Suns Shine in Six-Run Seventh

Pearl, MS - With the score tied at two, the Jacksonville Suns sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs to blow the game open Monday night at Trustmark Park. 1,659 fans saw the Braves fall to the Suns for the second straight night.

Jacksonville came out swinging again and posted a two-spot in the top of the first. Lorenzo Scott singled and scored when Logan Morrison reached on an error. Morrison came around to score on a single by Scott Cousins to put the Braves in an early hole. The Braves tied it in the third when Jason Heyward singled home Matt Young and Concepcion Rodriguez singled home Brandon Hicks.

The Suns blew the game open with a six-run seventh inning. They sent 11 men to the plate, four of which hit doubles. Morrison, Mike Stanton, Kevin Randel, Brad Davis, Scott and Ryan Klosterman all scored to give the Suns an 8-2 lead.

Jacksonville added an insurance run in the ninth to make the final 9-2. Jason Heyward's two-RBI triple in the ninth made the final 9-4.

Jeff Lyman gave the Braves a stellar outing. He gave up two runs in the first before settling into a rhythm. In all, Lyman allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits over five frames. Deunte Heath came on the sixth and gave up four runs in 1.1 innings. Bryan Dumesnil gave up two runs in two-thirds of an inning. Cory Gearrin gave up a run through two frames for the Braves.

Christhian Martinez allowed two runs in six innings and improved to 7-2 on the year. Jay Voss and Brad Stone each threw a shutout inning. Garrett Parcell came on the ninth and gave up two runs.

The Braves and Suns wrap up this four-game series Tuesday night at Trustmark Park at 7:05. Mississippi's Scott Diamond (3-7, 3.21) will take on Jacksonville's Nic Ungs (4-1, 1.93) in the finale.

The Braves wrap up the homestand on Tuesday, July 7th with Youth Villages Awareness Night. It will be Trustmark Bank Two for Tuesday when all seats, berm grass tickets, hot dogs, fountain drinks and popcorn will be two-for-one.
