Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns (24-22) roped 14 hits all over Municipal Stadium to take down the Lexington Legends (14-32). Suns right fielder Michael Burgess brought in three runs on three hits, including his first triple of the season.

The Legends got on the board first in the top half of the first inning. Second baseman Matt Cusick walked and came around to score on a Brian Pellegrini double.

Suns starter Luis Atilano was dialed in after that. Atilano retired ten batters in a row at one point, but did not factor in the decision as he only pitched four innings. Justin Phillabaum (1-0) picked up the win with two solid innings of work. Lexington starter Jacob Leonhardt (2-4) took the loss. Suns reliever Edulin Abreu picked up the save as he worked three innings of scoreless baseball.

The Suns did most of their damage in the third and fourth inning. In the third, Dan Lyons reached on an error by the shortstop Ronnie Ramirez. Bill Rhinehart followed that up with a single and Aaron Seuss brought Lyons around on a line drive single to right field. Burgess picked up his first RBI of the game on a ground ball to center field that scored Rhinehart. Suns centerfielder Mark Gildea followed Burgess' lead with an RBI single of his own.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Suns used extra base hits to extend their lead. Lyons blasted a one out double to the wall. Rhinehart moved Lyons to third on his second hit of the game. Lyons came home on a Seuss sacrifice fly. Catcher Sean Rooney put runners on the corners with a line drive to left field. Burgess then cleared the bases with his triple into the right field corner.

Hagerstown will finish up the series with Lexington tomorrow at 6:35 at Municipal Stadium.
