Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Montgomery, Ala. - The Jacksonville Suns (11-6) took a sixth inning lead before four relievers held off a late charge from the Montgomery Biscuits (6-11) for a 6-4 victory in front of 2,305 Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium.

Suns reliever Chris Leroux (1-0) picked up the victory, allowing one hit and one walk over an inning of work. Jacksonville starter Sean West did not factor in the decision, allowing four runs in the third inning, before lasting four and two-thirds innings in his fourth start of the season.

Montgomery reliever Chris Mason (1-1) picked up the loss, allowing three earned runs in the sixth inning to give up the lead. Mason was the 2007 Southern League Pitcher of the Year, but has been moved to the bullpen after spending 2008 in Triple-A. Biscuits starter Aneury Rodriguez allowed two runs over five innings but did not factor in the decision.

Suns closer Matt Peterson (5) saved the game for the second day in a row, allowing a two-out walk in the ninth inning. Peterson has saved all five opportunities in 2009.

Jacksonville opened the scoring in the second inning when Bryan Peterson hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield scoring Ryan Klosterman for a 1-0 lead.

Montgomery stormed ahead in the third inning, sending ten batters to the plate against Sean West. Following a leadoff groundout, the next six batters reached on a walk and five singles to score four runs for a 4-1 Montgomery lead. Rhyne Hughes, Cesar Suarez, Fernando Cortez and Rashad Eldridge recorded four straight RBI singles.

Jacksonville cut the lead to two runs in the fourth inning. Lorenzo Scott led off the inning with a walk, stole second base, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch for a 4-2 score.

After Rodriguez left the game, the Suns took advantage of reliever Chris Mason with a three-run sixth inning. Scott scored on a throwing error from the catcher, Ryan Klosterman scored on a Chris de la Cruz triple and Davis drove in de la Cruz with a ground out for a 5-4 Suns lead.

Suns infielder Ryan Klosterman saved the lead in the sixth inning, as with the bases loaded and two out, he started a force play for the final out with a diving stop of a groundball in the outfield grass back of second base.

Jacksonville added an insurance run in the ninth inning on a Matt Craig sacrifice fly for a 6-4 final.

Suns RH Willie Glen will face Biscuits RH Heath Rollins on Monday in game three of the series at Riverwalk Stadium starting at 8:05 p.m. ET. Live broadcast coverage is available on WFXJ-AM 930 and online at milb.com.
