JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Suns are pleased to announce that on the first six Friday night games in 2013, April 5th, April 26th, May 10th, May 24th, June 14th and June 21st, the Matthews Bridge will stay open both ways until 10:30 for added convenience for Suns fans. Assisting the Suns and fans in this endeavor is JEA and GFI Southeast.
When reached for comment Suns President and Owner Peter Bragan Jr. said the following: "I can't say enough about how thrilled I am that the contractor is willing to work with us in making it easier for Suns fans to get to Suns games, a special thanks goes out to Stephen Haney and Mike Goldman for their efforts."
The Matthews Bridge will also have no closures on Thursday, April 4th, Memorial Day Weekend Games, Wednesday, July 3rd and also for the Southern League All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 17th. For other weekday night games when the lane closures are eastbound they will begin at 7:00 P.M. except on Wednesday's when it is 9:00 P.M. For full bridge closures or westbound lane closures they will not begin before 8:00 P.M. to allow the traffic coming to the game to arrive on time. "We are excited to give some assistance to our fans from the Arlington and Atlantic Beach areas that had transportation issues last season when attending games" stated Suns General Manager Chris Peters.
The Jacksonville Suns are the Double-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and are proud members of the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs. The Suns begin the 2013 season with Opening Night on Thursday, April 4. The Suns will also host the 2013 Southern League All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 17th.
