Suns Offense Comes Alive in Saturday Win at Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, ALA. - The Jacksonville Suns (6-10) scored five times in the second inning against Montgomery emergency starter Jeff Kamrath, while homeruns from Juan Gonzalez and Rene Rivera held off a late Biscuits rally as the Suns defeated the Montgomery Biscuits (7-9) by the final score of 11-7 in front of a Riverwalk Stadium record crowd of 7,518.

James McDonald (1-0) picked up the victory for the Suns after six innings with four earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. Jeff Kamrath (1-2) fell in the loss for Montgomery, filling in for prospect starter Jake McGee (arm soreness).

Montgomery opened the scoring in the first inning against James McDonald as John Jaso belted a two-run homerun for a 2-0 lead.

The Suns struck back in the second inning with five runs against Jeff Kamrath. A fielder's choice RBI from Adam Godwin scored Rene Rivera, cutting the lead to 2-1. When Adam Godwin stole second base, a throwing error allowed Juan Gonzalez to score, tying the game 2-2. James Tomlin then singled to score Godwin for a 3-2 Suns lead. Greg Jacobs and Rene Rivera later single home runs for a 5-2 Suns advantage. Jacksonville sent 11 men to the plate in the second inning, the first time in 2008 that the Suns have batted around.

Jacksonville kept the pressure on in the third as Adam Godwin's single scored Shane Justis for a 6-2 Suns lead.

The teams traded fifth inning runs as Ivan DeJesus singled home Adam Godwin for a 7-2 Jacksonville advantage before Johnny Raburn singled home Josh Asanovich for a 7-3 Suns lead.

The Suns broke the game open in the sixth inning as Juan Gonzalez belted a three run homerun, his second of the season, off of reliever Jeremy Flanagan for a 10-3 Jacksonville lead.

Montgomery rallied with another run in the sixth inning on a Gabriel Martinez double, cutting the lead to 10-4. Suns reliever Edwardo Sierra entered the game in the seventh inning and walked the bases loaded before allowing a two-run double for a 10-6 Suns lead. Cory Wade then entered the game, allowing another RBI single to slice the Suns lead to only three at 10-7. After an error loaded the bases, Wade recorded two strikeouts and a groundout to stop the bleeding.

Suns catcher Rene Rivera smashed a leadoff homerun in the eighth inning to open an 11-7 lead.
