Suns Fall to Braves 6-2

PEARL, Miss. - The Jacksonville Suns (22-26) fell to the Mississippi Braves (22-27) by a 6-2 score at Trustmark Park in the fourth game of the five game series on Saturday night.

Suns starter Jarlin Garcia (1-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in his two innings of work. Braves starter Rob Whalen (3-4) earned the win by pitching six innings where he allowed two unearned runs on four hits with two walks and a season-high eight strikeouts.

In the bottom of the first, Mississippi's Matt Lipka led off the game with a triple, and was quickly brought home by the next batter Johan Camargo to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. Dansby Swanson followed with a homer to left field to put the score at 2-0. The Braves also added a pair of runs in the second inning to lead 4-0 heading to the third.

In the top of the third, Jacksonville's Moises Sierra smacked a two-run homer over the left field wall to cut Mississippi's lead to 4-2. The homer extended Sierra's hitting streak to nine games. In the bottom of the third, Suns starter Garcia was facing Swanson to begin the inning, but left the game after he experienced some discomfort. Hunter Adkins took over on the mound, and did allow a run to the Braves in the bottom of the fourth, and also in the sixth when he gave up a homer to Jordy Lara that put the score at 6-2, which would be the final.

The Suns and Braves will conclude their series with the fifth and final game of the five-game set at Trustmark Park tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. ET. The Suns will start right-hander Patrick Johnson (1-1, 5.72 ERA) against Mississippi right-hander Victor Mateo (0-0, 5.56 ERA).
