Suns Even Series with Extra Innings Win

Jacksonville, Fla. - Mike Stanton belted two homeruns, Logan Morrison hit his third Double-A round tripper and Lorenzo Scott smashed a game-ending, leadoff home run in the twelfth inning leading the Jacksonville Suns (42-38, 7-3) to a 7-6, twelve inning victory over the Montgomery Biscuits (38-42, 5-5) in front of 1,636 Wednesday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Suns reliever A.J. Battisto (1-0) picked up the victory in his first day with the ballclub, pitching a perfect twelfth inning. Battisto was promoted to Jacksonville from Jupiter prior to the game. Biscuits reliever Eddie Morlan (3-4) fell in the loss, giving up the game-ending homerun.

The game went back-and-forth, starting in the first inning. Montgomery's Desmond Jennings scored on a Rashad Eldridge double for a 1-0 score. In the bottom of the inning, Logan Morrison belted a two-out, solo homerun to right field for a 1-1 game. Mike Stanton next smashed a solo homerun over the right-centerfield wall for a 2-1 lead. Stanton's hit was originally a double, but overturned after a meeting of the umpiring20crew.

Montgomery took the lead back in the third inning, first tying the game as Jason Bowers scored on an Eldridge two-out single for a 2-2 score. Fernando Cortez next hit a two-run homerun to right field opening a 4-2 Montgomery lead.

In the bottom of the third Logan Morrison scored on a dropped pop-up by Montgomery catcher Nevin Ashley cutting the Biscuits lead to 4-3. Montgomery extended the lead to two runs again in the fifth inning as Eldridge drove in Bowers on a sacrifice fly for a 5-3 score.

Jacksonville rallied again starting in the sixth inning when Mike Stanton smashed a tape-measure homerun to left-centerfield t o cut the deficit to 5-4. In the seventh inning Lorenzo Scott's sacrifice fly tied the game 5-5 before an RBI single from Logan Morrison opened a 6-5 lead.

Matt Peterson entered the game in the ninth, looking for his league-leading 19th save. After striking out the first two batters, Peterson hit Nevin Ashley with a pitch. Drew Anderson next singled to put runners on first and third. Desmond Jennings then legged out an infield hit to drive in Ashley for a 6-6 score.

Montgomery only recorded one hit from the 10th through 12th innings. In the bottom of the 12th, Lorenzo Scott belted the first Eddie Morlan pitch into the right field bleachers for a 7-6 final.
