Lexington Legends News Release

Rhett Wiseman's two-run single broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning, and the Hagerstown Suns went on to a 4-1 win over the Lexington Legends in front of 6,024 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Friday night.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Roman Collins led off with a single, moved to third on an errant pickoff throw by Hagerstown starter Luis Reyes and scored on a sacrifice fly by Xavier Fernandez.

That lead lasted until the top of the fifth inning. With one out, Edwin Lora walked, stole second, continued to third on a throwing error by catcher Chase Vallot, and scored on a wild pitch by Julio Pinto.

The score remained 1-1 until the eighth. Leadoff hitter Randy Encarnacion was hit by a pitch, and Ian Sagdal followed with a pop fly single to center field. After Kelvin Gutierrez sacrificed the runners to second and third, Wiseman grounded a single up the middle, scoring Encarnacion and Sagdal. Wiseman stole second base, and when Grant DeBruin struck out on a ball in the dirt, Wiseman took third as DeBruin was thrown out at first. Wiseman scored when Jake Noll reached first on a throwing error by Legends third baseman Jecksson Flores.

Mariano Rivera (4-1), the son of the former New York Yankees closer, got the win. He entered the game in the sixth inning and retired nine consecutive batters. Philip Walby picked up his fifth save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Pinto allowed four hits and one run in five innings. Yunior Marte (6-7), who relieved Pinto, was the losing pitcher. He worked the last four innings and allowed five hits and three runs. He struck out eight batters and walked none.

The series continues Saturday night. Game time is 6:35 p.m.
