Suns Announce Roster Moves

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Suns roster prior to tonight's game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at the Blue Wahoos Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Right-handed relief pitcher Ryan Chaffee has been transferred from Jacksonville to Triple-A New Orleans. Chaffee went 2-3 with a 3.19 ERA in 29 games in relief with two saves for the Suns. With the Zephyrs this season, Chaffee has no wins or losses and a 13.50 ERA in one game in relief.

In a corresponding move, right-handed relief pitcher Esmerling De La Rosa has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. De La Rosa has gone 3-4 with a 3.59 ERA in 40 games in relief this season with the Hammerheads in addition to collecting 13 saves. De La Rosa pitched for the Suns in three games last year, going 1-0 with a 7.11 ERA in six and a third innings of work.

Additionally, right-handed pitcher Ryan Newell has returned from his rehab assignment with the GCL Marlins, reinstated from Jacksonville's disabled list and transferred to Single-A Greensboro. Newell had been on Jacksonville's disabled list since April 22 with right elbow inflammation after he had no wins or losses and a 9.39 ERA in two starts.

The Suns roster now stands at 25 active players, plus Derek Dietrich on his major league rehab assignment from Miami, and a revised roster is attached.

The Suns and Wahoos will conclude their series on Tuesday with the fifth and final game of the five-game set at Blue Wahoos Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Suns will start right-hander Patrick Johnson (6-7, 3.64 ERA) against Pensacola right-hander Nick Travieso (4-6, 3.99 ERA). Fans can listen to the game on the Suns Baseball Network, beginning at 7:15 p.m. with the pregame show "Suns On Deck" on FM 102.3 The Beach, the TuneIn Radio app, and www.jaxsuns.com.

The Suns begin their final home series Thursday against Mobile with Mavericks Live Thirsty Thursday fueled by Budweiser, when fans 21 and over can purchase $1 12-oz. and $2 24-oz. beers adjacent to the new Budweiser Tiki Terrace, under the left-field video board, at the right-field bleachers, and behind section 115. The game is also presented by 95.1 WAPE and X102.9.
