Summer Baseball Changes for 2018

CSH International, the ownership group of the Yuba City Bears summer collegiate baseball team, has made the decision to cease operations of the Bears playing in the GWL for the 2018 season. The team informed the Great West League of the decision and the League's Board of Governors has approved the request for Voluntary Suspension of operations in the GWL.

"This was an incredibly difficult decision which came after months of careful consideration," said Zoran Rajcic, President of CSH International, "We worked through every possible solution that might have avoided this outcome; however, with the growth of the league and the expansion with the Klamath Falls Gems and San Francisco Seals, we felt that having an odd number of teams in the league would create scheduling difficulties that we couldn't overcome."

The Yuba City Bears organization wishes to thank its incredibly loyal fans and sponsors for their support over the past season in the GWL.

"We strongly believe that this community is a great market for baseball and that with the two new expansion markets for this season and the additional markets that we anticipate joining the GWL in 2019 that the future is very bright for our league," said Rajcic.

"We underwent a task of great proportion last season; we launched the Bears as the GWL's sixth team just 90 days before the season opener last year. As an organization, we have a solid plan moving forward, and that is the most important thing as the Gold Sox take the field in late May 2018," said VP/GM Michael Mink.

"In order to honor the rich history of baseball in our area, the Gold Sox, in its 17th season, will be rebranded back to its original name: The Yuba Sutter Gold Sox. Our community is very important to us, and to help build and support it, a select U-17 team will be formed and launched using the Bears moniker. We know how important the youth is to this community and to be able to turn the Bears into this new U-17 program is fantastic. It will benefit young baseball players in the local area to help further their skills and help move on to the next level," said Mink.

Further details to follow on the U-17 Bears and the Gold Sox coaching staff this week.

The GWL schedule will be announced shortly with the following clubs: Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox, Chico Heat, Medford Rogues, Lincoln Potters,Klamath Falls Gems, San Francisco Seals.
