Storm's Weiner Dog Races Ranks #8 on ESPN SportsCenter's Top Ten Plays

Kearney, Neb. - Video of the Tri-City Storm's "Weiner Dog Races" continued to gain national attention on Tuesday evening. ESPN SportsCenter listed the moment number eight on its "Top Ten Plays" of the night on November 29, 2016. The show featured video of the final race between four dachshund dogs held November 19 during second intermission of the Storm's game against the Youngstown Phantoms.

Five-year-old "Scooby" won the final race. Ashley and Andy Ogdahl own the dog and live in Kearney.

ESPN posted the video of the race on its Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages Tuesday night. The posts racked up more than 200,000 views in an hour.

Tuesday Night, TSN 's "BarDown" blog quipped, "this is definitely an in-game promotion any team can get behind."

Earlier Tuesday, the NHL Network show "NHL Now" highlighted the Weiner Dog Races on its "Checking In" segment.

Hosted by Michelle McMahon, E.J. Hradek and Steve Mears, the trio teased the winner Scooby.

"Nobody is going to beat Scooby in that spot," joked the analyst Hradek.

On Monday night, SBNation.com posted its recap of the event.

The Storm hosts the Waterloo Black Hawks in consecutive home games on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3. Friday's game is First Responders Night, presented by New West, and is the first of two straight against the Black Hawks. Tri-City will honor local firefighters, policemen, EMTs and all other first responders throughout the game. It's also a $5 Kids Friday, featuring $5 tickets for those 12 and under plus a voucher for a free taco and soft drink at Kearney Taco Bell.

Saturday's game starts at 3:05 p.m. against Waterloo and is Boy Scout Day, presented by Cabela's. The Storm will wear one-night-only specialty jerseys, available for auction after the game.
