'stormers Smash York

July 29, 2016 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

The Barnstormers banged out 19 hits, fuor by K.C. Hobson, and Terry Doyle took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as Lancaster rolled to a 14-1 victory over the York Revolution at People's Bank Park.

Sean Halton hammered a three-run homer off Tony Pena (5-6) with two outs in the first inning.

Kevin Ahrens and Hobson contributed impressive solo blasts over the next two innings. Pena gave up no additional long balls, but his woes continued. Josh Bell slammed a long double to center and scored on a double to the left center alley by Mike McDade in the third, and Bell added a two-run single in the fourth inning.

Three consecutive singles in the fifth chased Pena with Trayvon Robinson's knock to left making it 9-0. Caleb Gindl greeted reliever Manny Corpas with a single to right loading the bases, and Hobson singled in two more with a line drive to left.

By the time the razing was over, Pena had been reached for 14 hits and 11 runs in 4 1/3 innings. Lancaster added two in the seventh, one on Hobson's fourth RBI of the game, and one without the benefit of a hit in the ninth.

Every player in the starting lineup had at least one hit and two total bases. Only McDade failed to score. Jeff Kobernus and Blake Gailen had two hits apiece, but neither drove in a run on the night.

Doyle retired the first 10 batters he faced before hitting Ryde Rodriguez with a pitch in the fourth. He walked Brandon Chaves in the fifth, but Josh Wilson singled over Ahrens' head at short to break up the no-hit bid. Travis Witherspoon rolled a single into left field to put Doyle (5-5) in trouble. The right-hander rallied to induce a 1-6-3 double play out of Rodriguez.

The next comebacker was far scarier. Kevin Rivers laced a line drive toward Doyle's head. The smash caught the right-hander in the neck, and Doyle was unable to recover the ball as York's only run of the night crossed the plate.

Doyle immediately came off the field. Reports are that his neck only sustained a bruise at the collar bone.

Hito Fujie, Jonny Drozd and Justin Jackson completed the effort. York collected only five singles on the night.

The two clubs meet again on Saturday at 6:30. Lancaster will send left-hander Anthony Fernandez (0-1) to the hill against right-hander Micah Owings (3-4). Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 6:15.
