Storm Storylines 12-11-17

December 15, 2017 - United States Hockey League (USHL) - Tri-City Storm News Release

The Storm play two more games before the holiday break. Tri-City hosts Dubuque this weekend at the Viaero Center for two games. Friday's game is the Teddy Bear Toss and Saturday's game is our canned food drive. Both games start at 7:35pm and will be the final home games until January 5th. I have listed several highlights and stat notes from the Storm below. Let me know if you would like to speak with any of our players or coaches this week. I will be out of office all next week following the two home games this weekend.

- Earlier today, the Storm made a trade for highly touted forward Tyler Madden from the Central Illinois Flying Aces. Madden was the #3 Overall draft pick in the USHL draft last season. He is also in the NHL Top Prospects Game that will be hosted at the Viaero Center for the first time on January 9th. The Storm now have three players who will be in that game. Jace Foskey and Wyllum Deveaux were named to the team last week. Madden's father, John Madden, played many season in the NHL for the Devils, Blackhawks, Wild, and Panthers. He is a 3 time Stanley Cup Champion and is currently the Head Coach of the Cleveland Monsters in the AHL. Tyler is ranked by NHL Central Scouting and his projected to be a mid to late round draft pick this year.

- Storm Head Coach Anthony Noreen is still in Nova Scotia serving as the Assistant Coach for Team USA in the World Junior A Challenge. Storm Equipment Manager Dan Bouska is also there with Team USA. Team USA is currently playing the Czech Republic team in their first game of the tournament as I write this email. The games this weekend will be the final two games the two Storm staff members miss because of the Tournament.

- Tri-City has played 20 regular season games, one third of the USHL season, and has compiled a record of 15-5. The team has played an even 10 home games and 10 away games with a record of 8-2 at home and 7-3 on the road.

- Dubuque is the matchup for the Storm this weekend. It will be the first time the two teams have played this season.

- Storm Goalie Filip Larsson is with Team Sweden, preparing for the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championships in Buffalo, NY. The event take place from December 26th until January 5th and will be televised worldwide. Viewers in the United States can see the games on the NHL Network.

- The 2018 NHL Top Prospects Game in Kearney is fast approaching. The Storm have only four more home games before the event on January 9th. Tickets are still on sale.

- Tri-City is in sole possession of 2nd place in the USHL Standings. The team is only one game behind Fargo, despite having played three less games.

- The Storm penalty kill is 2nd best in the USHL

Please let me know if you would like any additional information about the team or would like to arrange a time to speak with one of the players this week.
