Storm Sink Buccaneers for 3rd Straight Win

Des Moines, IA. - The Tri-City Storm defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers 4-2 on Saturday night in Urbandale, IA. Ronnie Attard, Keaton Pehrson, Tyler Madden and Connor McMenamin all scored goals in the Storm's 3rd consecutive win. Tri-City took a 3-2 season series lead over Des Moines in the win. The Storm battle the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at the Viaero Center on Friday night in the annual "Pack it in Purple" game.
The Buccaneers scored the game's first goal at the 6:46 mark of the 1st period. Julian Napravnik netted his 17th of the season with the lone assist going to Scooter Brickey. Storm starting goaltender Filip Larsson left the game after an apparent injury on the play and was replaced by Jake Barczewski. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 9-6 in the opening period but trailed 1-0 after the 1st period.
Saturday night's 2nd period was back and forth with each team scoring goals. Tri-City tied the game 1-1 on a Ronnie Attard goal at 3:13 of the period. Adam Goodsir picked up the assist on the goal. Des Moines answered minutes later with Tony Malinowski scoring his 1st of the season at 8:03 of the period. Brian Halonen and Julian Napravnik recorded assists on the goal. Tri-City would score another game tying goal later in the 2nd period, as Keaton Pehrson scored his 3rd of the season at the 16:52 mark of the period. Filip Forsmark and Blais Richartz both assisted on the goal. Tri-City and Des Moines entered the 3rd period in a 2-2 score.
Tri-City took the lead in 3rd period on the power play as Tyler Madden scored his team leading 12th goal of the year. The 5 on 4 goal from Madden was assisted by Connor McMenamin and Bryan Yoon. Tri-City battled to maintain a one goal advantage for much of the 3rd period. McMenamin added his name to the scoresheet again at the 19:18 mark of the period as he scored an empty net goal for the Storm. The goal from McMenamin pushed the lead to 4-2 and the Storm would finish the game up by two goals. The 4-2 win for Tri-City was the 3rd consecutive win for the Storm, who have now compiled 54 points in the league standings. Despite the win, Tri-City remains in 5th place in the Western Conference.
The Storm return to action Friday night at the Viaero Center in Kearney in a matchup with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. The broadcast will begin at 7:15pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35pm.
