Guelph Storm News Release
General Manager and Head Coach George Burnett announced Friday that Ryan Daniels has been added to the club's staff as Goaltending Coach.
Daniels joins the club after spending three seasons with the Mississauga Steelheads as Goaltending Coach and Video Coordinator.
"We are very pleased to finalize our coaching staff for the upcoming season with the addition of Ryan Daniels," said Burnett. "Ryan brings excellent experience as both a player and as a young coach. He will provide a strong support system and play an important role in the development of our strong group of young goalies."
Prior to working with the Steelheads, Daniels spent two seasons with the OJHL's Toronto Patriots as Goaltending Coach and Assistant General Manager. As a goaltender, Daniels logged 166 games across five OHL seasons with the Saginaw Spirit and the Peterborough Petes. He was selected by the Ottawa Senators in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, and followed up his OHL career with a four-year stint as a student athlete at Wilfrid Laurier University.
"I am very excited and appreciative of the opportunity from George Burnett and the Guelph Storm organization to join the coaching staff," said Daniels. "I am looking forward to the hard work that lies ahead and to being a positive contributor towards future success in Guelph."
In addition to naming Daniels as Goaltending Coach, Burnett confirmed Friday that Jake Grimes and Luca Caputi will be returning in their roles as Associate Coach and Assistant Coach, respectively.
"We are pleased to confirm the return of both Jake Grimes and Luca Caputi to the Storm," said Burnett. Both men are passionate about our group and excited to help lead our team, as we look to take another big step forward in the Western Conference in 2018-19."
Caputi joined the Storm prior to the 2015-16 season and will be entering his fourth season with the club. The Vaughan native transitioned to coaching following a professional career which included stops in the NHL, AHL and Allsvenskan (Sweden).
Grimes is entering his second season with the Storm after joining the club prior to the 2017-18 season. He brings 14 years of OHL coaching experience, having spent two seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Peterborough Petes and 11 seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Belleville Bulls.
The coaching staff is currently preparing for the 2018-19 season, with 2018 training camp getting underway on August 28th. The puck drops on the Storm's 2018-19 regular season with a visit to the Windsor Spitfires on Thursday, September 20th.
