Storm Game Preview: TC Matches Green Bay for First of Two at Home

Kearney, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm (2-1-0-1, 5 pts.) meets the Green Bay Gamblers (1-2-0-0, 2 pts.) for the first game of a back-to-back Thursday at 7:05 p.m. in Kearney. The game is the first time Tri-City plays Green Bay at home in two seasons.
Tri-City is giving away four free season tickets at Thursday's night showdown. Sign up on the Viaero Center concourse to be entered into the drawing. Two season ticket holders will win money back for a ticket and two new fans will join the Storm family of season ticket holders.
The Storm is tied for first in the Western Conference with the Des Moines Buccaneers. Green Bay is 0-2 on the road in 2016-17.
Tri-City is a week away from its Fight Cancer Weekend October 13-15, featuring a pair of home games. On Thursday, October 13 from 5-9 p.m., Tri-City invites all fans to "Paint the Ice" and remember those affected by cancer. The Storm will wear specialty jerseys and play on the painted ice against Cedar Rapids on Friday, October 14 at 7:05 p.m. for Color Out Cancer Night presented by Midway Auto Dealerships.
To continue the weekend theme, the Storm and Kearney Concrete team up for Concrete Cares Night on Saturday, October 15 at 7:05 p.m. Tri-City will play Lincoln on the painted ice and the Storm will wear new and different specialty jerseys.

First Game Funday The Storm has won its first two Friday games to begin the season, a similar theme to last season's dominance in the first game of back-to-backs.
Since the 2016 calendar year began, Tri-City is 12-2-3-0 on the first game of back-to-backs. Last season, the Storm went 10-2-3-0 after New Year's Day and finished 2015-2016 with a 16-6-4-2 record. The impressive record included a seven-game win streak midway through last season.
On the opposite end, Tri-City has dropped its first two games on Saturdays (0-1-0-1). Last season, the Storm was 10-9-6-4 on the second game of a back-to-back.
Penalty kill dominance The Storm is 11-for-11 on the penalty kill, one of three teams (Lincoln, Fargo) that are perfect while down a man. No other USHL team has been perfect through four games. Tri-City's longest streak without allowing a power-play goal last season was 24 (Oct. 2-24).
The Storm also had two stretches without allowing a man-up tally in six straight games and two other 23 straight kill streaks in 2015-16.
Some Impressive Streaks End Before Saturday's loss to Lincoln, the Storm had not fallen in regulation since Game 4 of the 2016 Western Conference Finals, a stretch of seven games (6-0-0-1). If you include Tri-City's 4-0-0-0 preseason, the Storm went 10-0-0-1 from Game 5 of the Conference Finals until October 1.
Also impressive, the Storm beat Lincoln in five straight regular season games and had points in six straight games against the Stars before suffering a loss Saturday. The undefeated streak lasted from December 5, 2015 until this weekend.
Tri-City beat the Stars in the final four games of the 2015-16 regular season series and knocked Lincoln off on 2016-17 Opening Night. Over the five straight victories, the Storm scored an average of 3.8 goals per game and allowed 1.4 goals a contest.
Last Time Out Carson Vance and Charlie Kelleher each scored their first Storm goals, but Lincoln tallied the game-winner midway through the third and outlasted Tri-City, 3-2.
Vance's goal, a groundball through traffic that snuck in, tied the Storm at two with 12 minutes left. Off a face-off two minutes later, Lincoln's Dom Mersch snuck the puck in. Storm goalie David Tomeo made 19 saves in his USHL debut. Tri-City outshot Lincoln, 36-21.
