Storm Comeback Falls Short vs. Sioux City

Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm fell to the Sioux City Musketeers Friday night at the Viaero Center by a final score of 3-2. After falling behind 3-0 in the 3rd period, Tri-City scored two late goals but couldn't find the game tying goal in the final minutes. The Storm host Lincoln for Fan Appreciation Night tomorrow at 7:35pm in the final game of the regular season.
Sioux City scored one goal in each period during the game, beginning with a 1st period goal from Ryan Leibold. His goal at the 2:33 mark of the 1st period was his 7th of the season and was assisted by Randy Hernandez. Minutes later, Aaron Grounds was ejected from the game following a vicious hit to Tri-City's Chase McLane. Grounds was given a five minute major for head contact and a ten minute game misconduct. The Musketeers outshot the Storm 15-8 and carried a one goal lead into the 2nd period.
The Musketeers increased their lead to two goals less than one minute into the 2nd period. Bauer Neudecker netted his 5th of the season at the 49 second mark of the period to give Sioux City a 2-0 lead. Tri-City was outshot 15-7 in the 2nd period and trailed by two goals entering the 3rd period.
Cole Koepke netted his team leading 28th goal of the season at 7:23 of the 3rd period to give the Musketeers a three goal lead. Tri-City answered with Adam Goodsir's 12th goal of the season at 14:59 of the period to bring the Storm back within two goals. Minutes later, Hugo Blixt fired a puck under Sioux City goaltender Ben Kraws to cut the lead to 3-2. Blixt's goal was his 11th of the season 11th of the season, the 2nd most of any defenseman in the USHL this season. The Storm was unable to find the game tying goal, and the Musketeers skated away with a 3-2 win.
Tri-City outshot Sioux City 13-7 and outscored the Musketeers 2-1 in the final period. Sioux City outshot Tri-City 37-28 and finishes its season tomorrow night in Ralston, NE against the Omaha Lancers. Storm goaltender Jake Barczewski stopped 34 of 37 shots from Sioux City and fell to 10-14-2-1 in the loss.
The Storm return to action tomorrow night in a home matchup against the Lincoln Stars. The broadcast will begin at 7:15pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35pm.
