Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - Jarrett Grube turned in a stellar start, but the Tacoma Rainiers came up short in a 3-1 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers in front of a sell-out crowd of 7,508 fans at Cheney Stadium on Friday.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the top of the ninth inning, Tacoma reliever Fabio Castro surrendered a one-out, two-run double to outfielder Lorenzo Cain that ultimately put the Rainiers on the losing end of a series sweep to the Storm Chasers.

Tacoma's ninth-inning struggles overshadowed a stout pitching performance from the starter Grube. The right-hander held the Storm Chasers to just one hit over seven innings, retiring all but two of the 23 batters he faced in the contest and racking up six strikeouts.

Grube's only slip up came in the top of the second inning when he gave up a solo home run to designated hitter Clint Robinson that put Omaha on top 1-0.

The Rainiers answered back in the fourth inning. Outfielder Michael Saunders hit a double that plated Mike Wilson from first base and knotted the game at 1-1 until Cain's double in the ninth.

Omaha reliever Zach Miner (2-1) collected the win after tossing 1.1 perfect innings with one strikeout over the seventh and eighth. Reliever Kelvin Herrera turned in a scoreless outing in the ninth to pick up his fourth save this season.

The loss went to the left-hander Castro (5-4) after he surrendered the go-ahead runs to the Storm Chasers on one hit with one walk over a 1.1-inning relief appearance.

The Rainiers (5-5) now head to Reno to begin a showdown with the PCL Pacific Northern Division-leading Aces at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday. Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (3-0, 3.26) looks to stretch his win streak to four games when he takes the mound for Tacoma in the series opener. Right-hander Kevin Mulvey (3-7, 6.97) is slated to start for Reno.

The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
