Storm Chasers Present 'Welcome to the Big Ten Night'

June 30, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - With both the tongue-in-cheek spirit of Minor League Baseball promotions and the solemnity of the University of Nebraska joining the nation's most storied athletic conference in mind, the Omaha Storm Chasers are proud to present "Welcome to the Big Ten Night" at Werner Park this Friday, July 1st.

Planned for the same day Nebraska officially becomes a Big Ten member, fans are encouraged to come to the ballpark decked out in their favorite Big Ten school's gear. Prior to the game, a parade in the spirit of the Tournament of Roses will be held for fans of each of the twelve Big Ten schools (don't worry, we're not counting either) and the Storm Chasers will honor a "Grand Marshal" and "Rose Queen" with complimentary seat upgrades.

Once the game begins - at 7:10 rather than 7:05 - fans will immediately begin to notice subtle and not-so-subtle differences between this night and regular nights at Werner Park. For starters, the visiting Albuquerque Isotopes will be called the "Leaders" and the Storm Chasers the "Legends" to reflect the new conference division names.

With Nebraska set to visit Wisconsin, Minnesota, Penn State and Michigan this season, the Storm Chasers are putting together a few fun surprises during the game to prepare fans for the various experiences at those campuses. To honor Wisconsin, fans will get a chance to "Jump Around" during an inning break like Badger students do between the third and fourth quarters at Camp Randall Stadium. In recognition of Minnesota, fans will stand and jingle their keys prior to the first pitch of the game, as is customary prior to a Golden Gophers kickoff. For Penn State, Section 125 will have a White Out, with free white T's provided by the Storm Chasers. And for Michigan, the Storm Chasers will run out of the dugout and high-five a "Blue" banner prior to the national anthem.

Even the between-inning promotions will have a Big Ten flair. On-field competitions normally conducted as contests between the first and third base sides will be between college rivals instead. For example, the Werner Enterprises Balloon Bust might be a battle between Iowa and Minnesota for the Floyd of Rosedale, or perhaps between Indiana and Purdue for the Old Oaken Bucket. Also, you'll never know which Big Ten "Leader" or "Legend" might make a surprise appearance in one of the contests!

Finally, in recognition of one unnamed Big Ten member recently in the news, fans will have an opportunity to "sell" their old Big XII apparel for future Storm Chasers game tickets. All items will be donated to charity - even sweater vests.

Tickets are still available for July 1st and the other 31 remaining Storm Chasers games during the 2011 season. To purchase seats, fans can visit the Werner Park ticket office, call (402) 738-5100 or visit www.omahastormchasers.com.
