Storm Chasers Defeat the Sounds, 6-5, in 13 Innings

April 22, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

PAPILLION, Neb. - It may have taken four hours and two minutes but the Omaha Storm Chasers were able to outlast the Nashville Sounds, 6-5, in a 13 inning marathon on Saturday night at Werner Park. Jarrod Dyson went 1-for-5 but his lone hit was the one that scored Anthony Seratelli to win the game for Omaha. The two teams combined to use 31 players in Saturday's game.

Tommy Hottovy (1-0) picked up his first win of 2012 after three masterful innings of relief in which he did not allow a hit and struck out five. Starter Vin Mazzaro put in a solid effort, giving up three runs over seven hits in six innings of work.

Nashville (4-13) put the Storm Chasers in a quick 3-0 hole, after scoring a run in the first and two in the second inning. Undaunted, Omaha (12-5) came storming back and tallied two in the fourth on a two-run double by Kevin Kouzmanoff. The Storm Chasers went up 4-3 in the fifth when a Johnny Giavotella single was followed by a two-run blast by Clint Robinson. Omaha added another run in the seventh and extended their lead to 5-3 on back-to-back doubles by Derrick Robinson and Giavotella.

However, the lead would not stand as Francisley Bueno gave up a two-run homer in the top of the ninth that knotted the game at 5-5. Both offenses sputtered and failed to score runs until the bottom of the 13th when Nashville, who had depleted their bullpen, put infielder Erick Almonte in to pitch. Omaha loaded the bases against Almonte to set up Dyson for his walk-off single that gave the Storm Chasers the hard fought victory.
