Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

KEARNEY, Neb. - The top players on the Tri-City Storm put on a show for the sellout crowd at the Viaero Center on Friday night. Carson Meyer tallied twice, and Wade Allison notched another in the Tri-City Storm's 4-1 triumph over the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the first game of a two-game swing.

Two goals in the second period's closing minute of action put the game away. First, it was Nico Sturm who tallied his tenth of the season on a redirection in front of Hunter Miska. And just 36 seconds later, Carson Meyer redirected an opportunity through Miska to close out what ended up being the game's ultimate turning point.

Wade Allison connected with his 14th goal in the last 16 games for the Storm late in the first period, breaking down on a two-on-one break, sniping far post to extend a Tri-City lead to two. That lead was set at one by Meyer, who found himself all alone in the slot halfway through the first period.

The top line of Jake Wahlin, Sturm and Meyer combined to score six points.

Casey Johnson responded to the two quick Storm tallies in the first period with a goal of his own, a now league-leading seventh goal of the season by a defenseman. Zach Solow collected a Tri-City turnover out of the corner, and his pass, deflected by Petter Mäkitalo, found Johnson all alone in the slot. He whiffed on the first chance, but not the second chance, stoking the puck past Tri-City netminder Jake Kielly.

While Kielly made 23 stops on 24 shots on goal fired his way, it was Miska, while in a losing effort, who might have have put forth his best in terms of save quality. His best stop of the night, a full-extension leg pad save on Wahlin, who waited at the side of the net with a wide open four-by-six opening to score.

Jaxon Castor followed up in relief for the third period, stopping all seven chances fired his way.

These two teams are back at it on Saturday night at the Viaero Center starting at 7:00 p.m. Join all of the action on Dubuque's Super Hits 106.1 FM, or on the USHL's streaming video provider by watching on FASTHockey.com.
