Storm Blow Past Des Moines 5-2

Urbandale, IA. - The Tri-City Storm defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers by a final score of 5-2 Saturday night at Buccaneer Arena in Urbandale, Iowa. Brian Hawkinson, Bryan Yoon, Blais Richartz, Noah Weber, and Jake Crespi all scored goals for the Storm in the win. Storm goalie Connor Hopkins stopped 22 of 24 Buccaneer shots to record his first career USHL win in his first start in goal for Tri-City.
The Storm got off to a fast start in Saturday night's critical road game against Des Moines. Tri-City Captain Brian Hawkinson netted his 5th goal of the season at 6:20 of the 1st period to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. Hawkinson's goal was assisted by Blake Evennou and Connor McMenamin. Tri-City added to its 1-0 lead later in the 1st period when Bryan Yoon scored his 2nd goal of the season on the power play. The goal from Yoon was scored at the 16:34 mark of the period and was assisted by Tyler Madden. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 13-6 in the opening period and carried a two goal lead into the 2nd period.
Tri-City would continue to provide offense in the 2nd period, adding two more goals in the final 7 minutes of the period. Blais Richartz scored his 8th goal of the season at the 13:11 mark of the 2nd period to extend the Tri-City lead to 3-0. Brian Hawkinson provided the lone assist on the goal after scoring the game's first goal back in the 1st period. Noah Weber scored his 1st goal of the season moments later to increase the Storm lead to four goals. Johnny McDermott and Bryan Yoon assisted on Weber's goal scored at 14:16 of the 2nd period. The goal from Weber was the final shot faced by Des Moines starting goaltender Roman Durny, who was replaced in net by Jake Kucharski following the goal. Tri-City outshot Des Moines 16-10 in the 2nd period and led the game 4-1 entering the 3rd period.
The Buccaneers put together a 3rd period comeback attempt, scoring the period's first goal less than 7 minutes in. Julian Napravnik provided a spark to the Des Moines offense at the 6:52 mark of the 3rd period to bring the score to 4-2. The tally from Napravnik was the final goal of the evening from the Bucs. Tri-City's Jake Crespi scored the game's final goal at 13:18 of the 3rd period to increase the Storm lead to 5-2. The goal from Crespi was his 7th of the season and was assisted by Johnny McDermott and Blais Richartz.
Storm goalie Connor Hopkins made 22 saves on 24 Des Moines shots in the win. Hopkins picked up his 1st career USHL win in his first career start with Tri-City. The 1st Star of the game was Tri-City's Blais Richartz, and Storm defenseman Bryan Yoon picked up 2nd Star honors in the win.
Tri-City improved to 27-16-1-1 in the win and can move into 4th place in the Western Conference standings with a win tomorrow. Tomorrow afternoon's game in Sioux City, Iowa will be the 3rd and final game of the weekend for the Storm.
The Storm return to action tomorrow afternoon at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa in a matchup with the Sioux City Musketeers. The broadcast will begin at 2:45pm on HockeyTV and the Breeze 94.5FM. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:05pm.
