Storm Are Saddened by the Loss of Long Time Ambassador Rita Campbell

June 17, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Guelph Storm News Release

The Guelph Storm hockey club are saddened to hear of the loss of long time Storm fan and ambassador Rita Campbell. Rita has been a part of the Storm family since the beginning as the head usher at the Memorial Gardens and then the Storm Ambassador when the team moved to what was originally called the Guelph Sports and Entertainment Centre, now known as the Sleeman Cente, in 2000.

Six years ago the Storm honoured Rita for her 65 years of volunteer work with the City and the Storm with an on ice ceremony prior to a game versus the Ottawa 67s.

The coat full of pins that Rita wore proudly also showed the number of lives she touched in the hockey community as new and old friends a like would often donate to her growing collection. Rita will be remembered for her passion and dedication to sports. A story that comes to mind is when longtime Leaf and St. Michael's Majors coach Mark Osborne knocked over a garbage can outside the visiting dressing room- angry at his team during an intermission. Rita grabbed him and told him to clean up everything. There he was the visiting coach with broom and pan in hand cleaning up garbage as fans watched and Rita supervised.

Thank you Rita for your love and dedication to the Storm. You will be missed and definitely not forgotten. The Storm send their deepest condolences to Rita's family and friends.
