Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Charlotte Stone Crabs set a franchise record for runs in a game Wednesday, beating the Clearwater Threshers 18-6 at Charlotte Sports Park.

The Stone Crabs' (5-8) previous record was 15 runs, which came in their 15-0 shutout of Palm Beach on July 3, 2013 in Port Charlotte.

Charlotte notched a season-high 20 hits in the win, tying a franchise record. The only other game in which the Stone Crabs reached the 20-hit plateau was on July 21, 2015 in 12-0 victory over St. Lucie.

Seven Stone Crabs recorded multiple hits in the victory, with five players driving in multiple runs.

Amazingly, the game was tied 4-4 entering the bottom of the seventh inning. Stone Crabs catcher David Rodriguez led off with a single before Lucius Fox drew a walk against Threshers (3-10) reliever Jeff Singer (0-3). After a bunt moved the runners to second and third, Singer intentionally walked Robbie Tenerowicz to load the bases with one out.

After Clearwater brought in Aaron Brown, Nate Lowe pulled a single into right. Two runs scored on the hit before a throwing error allowed a third run to come in and make it 7-4. Jesus Sanchez followed with a line drive home run to right center, extending the Charlotte lead to 9-4. After another single and a walk, Rodriguez singled up the middle to bring home another run and make the count 10-4. Fox then chopped an infield single to the left side, plating a run to bring the score to 11-4. Two batters later, Tenerowicz grounded a ball up the middle to cap the inning and give the Stone Crabs a commanding 12-4 advantage.

The eight-run frame was by far their largest of the season, with the previous high being four runs.

Charlotte would add six more runs in the eighth before the Threshers got two back in the ninth. 18 of the 24 runs in the game were scored in the final three innings.

Stone Crabs starter Brandon Lawson became the first starter to complete six innings this season, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing three earned runs on three hits.

Reliever Curtis Taylor (2-0) got the win, going 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

Sanchez finished the night 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, a walk and three runs scored. Fox and Tenerowicz also notched three hits. Tenerowicz and Nate Lowe finished with 3 RBI. The Stone Crabs also set a season-high with nine walks in the game.

The Stone Crabs will look to claim the series Thursday night as LHP Kenny Rosenberg (0-0, 8.22) makes the start at 6:35 p.m. RHP Adonis Medina (1-1, 5.63) will pitch for Clearwater. Coverage starts at 6:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
