Stone Crabs Cruise to Win over Mets
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (August 1, 2017) - The Charlotte Stone Crabs cruised to a 6-1 win over the St. Lucie Mets on Tuesday at Charlotte Sports Park.
Charlotte starter Travis Ott fired six scoreless innings for the second time this season against the Mets. He scattered three singles and two walks while striking out five to earn the win.
The Stone Crabs raced out to a 3-0 lead when Ryan Boldt, Brett Sullivan and David Olmedo-Barrera hit consecutive two-out RBI singles in the third inning off of Mets starter Mike Gibbons.
Nate Lowe made it 6-0 with a two-out, two-run single against Gibbons in the fifth inning.
The Mets scored their only run of the game in the seventh when Tim Tebow bounced into a double play with the bases loaded.
Jhoan Urena went 2 for 4 and scored the only run for the Mets. Peter Alonso hit a single in the ninth to extend his hitting streak to nine games.
Josh Torres pitched two innings of scoreless relief with three strikeouts.
Gibbons allowed 10 hits and six earned runs over five innings.
For Charlotte, Olmedo-Barrera went 3 for 3 with a walk.
The Mets (15-23, 48-58) are off on Wednesday. They will return to the diamond on Thursday to start a seven-game home stand at First Data Field. First pitch vs. the Tampa Yankees on Thursday is 6:30 p.m.
