May 22, 2017 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

The Charlotte Stone Crabs' bullpen worked 8.1 consecutive scoreless innings Sunday, but the Stone Crabs lost both games to the Jupiter Hammerheads at Field 5 of the Rays' Spring Training complex.

Both games Sunday were the continuation of suspended games from earlier in the weekend.

Game 1:

The Stone Crabs (19-23) and Hammerheads (17-26) continued Friday's game in the top of the second with no score.

In the top of the second, Jupiter right fielder John Silviano walked before stealing second. Three batters later, Brad Haynal singled to center to score Silviano and give the Hammerheads a 1-0 lead.

Still up by that count in the fifth, Jupiter shortstop J.J. Gould reached second base on an error before advancing to third on a groundout. With two outs and Gould at third, Stone Crabs righty Taylor Hawkins (1-2) issued a wild pitch, allowing Gould to score and make it 2-0.

With Jupiter still up two in the sixth, Dustin Geiger drew a walk. After a flyout and a walk put runners at first and second, Haynal singled to left to score Geiger and cap the scoring at 3-0.

Hammerheads righty Felipe Gonzalez (4-4) worked six shutout innings while allowing only four hits and striking out four. Lefty Jose Quihada struck out five in two innings of relief to earn the save.

Stone Crabs reliever Drew Smith went 2.1 shutout innings of relief before Joe Serrapica fanned a pair in his one perfect inning.

Game 2:

The teams entered the second game Sunday with Jupiter leading 4-0 in the fourth. Brad Haynal's home run in the first inning Saturday opened up a lead against Stone Crabs starter Michael Santos (3-1).

With the Stone Crabs down 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth Sunday, second baseman Brandon Lowe singled to right against Jupiter reliever Nick Neumann (1-0). Brett Sullivan and Ryan Boldt followed with singles of their own to load the bases with one out. Dalton Kelly then flew out to deep left to score Lowe and make the count 4-1.

However, that would be all Charlotte could muster against the Hammerheads bullpen.

Stone Crabs reliever Roel Ramirez worked four hitless innings of relief to keep the Hammerheads at bay.

The Stone Crabs will open a four-game series with the Daytona Tortugas Monday at 6:35 p.m. Eduar Lopez (3-4, 4.28) makes the start for Charlotte against Jesus Reyes (4-1, 3.73) of Daytona. Coverage begins at 6:20 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
