Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that forward Myles Stoesz has been reassigned to the Gladiators from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League by the Atlanta Thrashers of the National Hockey League.

Under contract to the Atlanta Thrashers and drafted by Atlanta in the 7th round, #207 overall in the 2005 NHL draft, Stoesz has not appeared in a game this season with the Chicago Wolves. Stoesz becomes the first player assigned to Gwinnett by their NHL or AHL affiliates this season.

Stoesz set the Gladiators single season record for most penalty minutes by one player in one season collecting 291 while with Gwinnett last season. His 291 penalty minutes were also an ECHL season high last year.

The Steinbach, Manitoba native notched 2 goals and 4 assists for 6 points in 64 games last season with Gwinnett. Stoesz also appeared in one Kelly Cup Playoff game with Gwinnett last year.

During his four year junior hockey career in the Western Hockey League with Spokane, Chilliwack and Regina, Stoesz finished with 855 career penalty minutes in 235 career games. Stoesz also notched 9 goals and 15 assists in his junior career in the WHL.

The Gladiators continue the 2008-09 season on Tuesday, October 28th at the Arena at Gwinnett Center as they host the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05 p.m.

Eighteen of the 23 teams have played at least five years in their current city.

The third-longest tenured professional hockey league behind only the National Hockey League and the American Hockey League, the ECHL averaged 4,174 per game last season, marking the fourth year in row and the 16th time in the last 18 years that the league has averaged over 4,000 fans. The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
