Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Open Four-Game Road Trip this Week

The South Carolina Stingrays tangled with the Greenville Road Warriors and Gwinnett Gladiators last week for a week record of 0-1-1-1.

The Stingrays battled the Road Warriors Tuesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum, falling 6-0. The loss snapped a season-high six-game winning streak for South Carolina. The two teams met again Friday evening at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, South Carolina. Trailing 4-1 going into the third period, the Stingrays scored three unanswered goals to force overtime and a shootout before Greenville prevailed 5-4. Forward Tyler Johnson scored two goals an assist including the game-tying tally and forward Chris Langkow added a goal and an assist.

The Gladiators visited the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday. Tied 1-1, Stingrays forward Andrew Cherniwchan scored the go-ahead goal with .7 seconds left in the second period. Gwinnet came back to tie the game with seconds left in the third period and skated away with a 3-2 victory in overtime.

Taking the Lead

The Stingrays are fourth in the South Division with 30 points and seventh overall in the Eastern Conference.

Goaltender Ryan Zapolski, currently with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League, is first in the ECHL with a 1.57 goals-against average and first with a .945 save percentage.

Forward Daniel Koger is second in the ECHL with four shootout goals.

Defenseman Tommy Cross, currently with the Providence Burins of the American Hockey League, is tied for 13th among ECHL rookies and tied for fifth among league defensemen with 17 points (six goals, 11 assists).
