March 4, 2016 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sarnia Sting News Release

It was a much better effort from the Sting tonight, downing the rival Spitfires by a score of 2-1 in front of a near capacity crowd of 4,225 at the Sarnia Sports & Entertainment Centre. With the win, Sarnia moves 3 points ahead of the Spitfires for 1st in the West Division Standings.

Nikita Korostelev was named the game's first star, tallying a goal and an assist in the win. Studnicka, who potted his 23rd of the season, rounded out the scoring for the home side and took home second star honors. Christian Fischer had the lone goal for the Spitfires and was named the game's 3rd star.

It was an entertaining match-up from start to finish as the Sting were excellent at both end of the ice. Charlie Graham was solid in goal, turning aside 27 of 28 shots faced in the contest. Culina took the loss in goal despite stopping 26 of 28 shots steered in his direction.

Leafs' prospect Nikita Korostelev opened the scoring for the Sting with 8:10 remaining in the opening frame. Anthony Salinitri and Travis konecny drew the helpers on Korostelev's 19th of the campaign.

The home side took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission while holding a 11-6 advantage on the shot clock.

Just 5:23 into the middle stanza, Sam Studnicka took a pass from Korostelev and pounded home his 23rd of the season on the powerplay. Josh Jacobs was credited with the second assist.

Just over four minutes later, Christian Fischer narrowed the margin for the Spitfires - but that was as close as they would get as the Sting held on to collect two valuable points.

The Sting and Spitfires will play again next Thursday night in Windsor in game 5 of a 6 game season series. The club is home to the Saginaw Spirit on Friday night in the second last regular season game at the SSEC.
