Sting Add Two Players After OHL Under-18 Priority Selection Wednesday Evening
April 11, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sarnia Sting News Release
Wednesday evening married the second annual OHL Under-18 Priority Selection which targets the top 2000 and 2001-born Midget AAA players from programs across the province.
The concept was developed a year ago with full support from Hockey Canada's three Ontario Branches including the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF), Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO), and Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO), to assist in the growth of Midget hockey and provide further opportunities for players at different stages of their hockey development.
2017's first overall pick Victor Hadfield (Barrie Colts), seventh overall pick Emmett Serensits (Sudbury Wolves), 13th overall pick Cameron Gaylor (Mississauga Steelheads), second round pick Marko Jakovljevic (Sarnia Sting) and third round pick Seva Losev (Ottawa 67's) are among those who made the jump to the OHL this past season.
With the 19th overall pick Sting General Manager Nick Sinclair selected smooth-skating defenceman Ethan Allair from the North Bay Trappers Midget AAA program. In 31 games played this season Allair posted 10 goals and 21 assists from the backend. "The Sarnia Sting are very pleased to have the opportunity to add two quality players to our program and would like to officially welcome both Ethan and Troy to the organization."
Sting Major Midget Scout, Kyle Craner comments "Ethan is a high-quality skating defenceman who likes to jump into the rush and has the ability and vision to make an accurate first pass when leaving the zone."
Following up their first-round pick, The Sting elected to take a winger in Troy Andrews, who completed this past season with the Mississauga Senators of the GTHL. In 33 games played the speedy forward tallied 20 goals, adding 14 assists. Craner adds "Troy is a hard-working, offensive minded forward, who has a good nose for the net and plays an aggressive forechecking game."
