January 18, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Bossier City, LA --- Memphis RiverKings goalie Larry Sterling stopped 14 of 15 shots in the third period as the Northern Conference rallied for a 9-6 All Star Game victory at the CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, LA. Sterling's third period performance earned him the victory in his first All Star Game appearance.
RiverKings defenseman Derek Landmesser picked up two assists in what was his fifth All Star Game while teammate Travis Banga chipped in an assist in his CHL All Star debut.
The North squad was down 5-4 entering the third period, but scored five unanswered to take charge. Defenseman Matt Medley, who was still representing the Tulsa Oilers and the Northern Conference despite having been traded to Rio Grande Valley prior to the All Star Game, was the Northern Conference MVP with a goal and two assists.
Corpus Christi goalie Brent Zelenewich was named the Southern Conference MVP after holding the Northern team to one goal in the second period.
Youngstown's Jeff Christian scored two goals, including the game winner for the second year in a row, and added an assist to pace the Northern Conference offensively.
The RiverKings return from the break with a pair of games this weekend with the Odessa Jackalopes. Friday's game is a 7:05 start while Saturday's contest is a special 2 pm face-off.
