SteelHounds Acquire 20-Goal Scorer Garrett Larson in Trade

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio- The Youngstown SteelHounds of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today several roster moves leading up to their weekend showdown with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. The highlight is the acquisition of 26-year-old forward Garrett Larson and a player to be named later from the Colorado Eagles in exchange for the rights to Paul Esdale.
The 6-2, 200-pound Larson played three years at St. Cloud State where he was a key member to the power house squad during the 2003-04 season posting nine goals and four assists in 23 games. Overall he played in 48 games for the Huskies scoring 12 goals with four helpers. St. Cloud State is a prominent program in NCAA Hockey producing many National Hockey League players including Bret Hedican, Tyler Arnason, Mark Hartigan, Duvie Westcott, Mark Parrish, Matt Cullen and Pittsburgh Penguin Ryan Malone.
Larson transferred his senior season and played in 28 games for the University of Wisconsin-River Falls scoring 20 goals with 22 assists.
Last year, Larson had a phenomenal rookie campaign for the Colorado Eagles with 47 points coming off 22 goals and 25 assists, all without missing a single game. The favorite son of Park River, North Dakota has three goals and seven assists in 32 games this season with the Eagles.
In a separate roster move, the SteelHounds have placed goaltender David Currie on the 14-day injured reserve. Forwards Jason Spence, Joey Sewell and defenseman Josh Reed are already on the injured reserve. Currie is 6-6-5 with a 3.08 goals against average.
Replacing Currie on the roster will be Parma, Ohio native Bill Ferkol who was signed by the Hounds as an emergency backup for this weekend's series. The 6-5, 200-pound goaltender played college hockey at Northland College and also at Kent State.
Larson will debut as a SteelHound on Friday when the Hounds look to make up ground on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs who sit two points in front of Youngstown in the Northeast Division standings. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM at the Chevrolet Centre. Tickets are available by calling (330) 747-PUCK.
