Mississauga Steelheads News Release

Ottawa, ON - The Steelheads visited the Ottawa 67s Saturday afternoon for their second of two meetings this week. Last Sunday, the Trout played arguably their best defensive period of the season as they gave up a scarce number of glorious opportunities as Jack Flinn shut the door to help preserve the 1-0 Steelheads victory.

Seven minutes into the opening frame, the Steelheads would capitalize on the power play as Stefan LeBlanc set up Alex Nylander for a one-timer from the top of the circle. Nylander's shot flew over Herbst's shoulder to give the Steelheads a 1-0 lead. Nathan Bastian picked up the extra assist on Nylander's 22nd of the season. The 67s responded as Connor Graham picked up a rebound off Flinn's pads to even the score 1-1. The game would remain tied heading into the first intermission.

The score stayed locked at 1-1 for the majority of the middle frame, with an equal number of chances at both ends. Artur Tyanulin would give the 67s their first lead with a beautiful highlight reel goal. Evan de Haan and Stepan Falkovsky picked up the assists on Tyanulin's sixth of the season. Ottawa would maintain their one goal lead heading into the second intermission.

The Steelheads would even things up with just under five minutes to play in the final frame as Michael McLeod jumped out on a shorthanded breakaway and deked out Herbst for his 17th of the season. Neither team could find the back of the net in regulation or overtime, so this game would head to a shootout.

Nylander would be the only successful shooter, leading the Steelheads to a 3-2 victory over the 67s. The Steelheads are back in action Friday, January 15th to take on the Kitchener Rangers.
