March 22, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Barrie Colts News Release

The Barrie Colts wouldn't get the start they hoped for as they kicked off the OHL playoffs Thursday night hosting game one of the best of seven series.

Two late second period goals by Owen Tippett and Michael McLeod would break the tie and eventually be the difference as the Steelheads would add four more goals in the third period skating to a convincing 6-2 victory.

Just over seven minutes into the series the Colts regular season scoring leader would continue right where he left off. Lucas Chiodo would hit Luchuk flying down the right wing over the blueline and squeak one under the arm of Jacob Ingham to strike first in the series.

With just two minutes remaining in the opening period Barrie would get called for a penalty. The league's second best powerplay would only need 8 seconds to get the tying marker as Ryan McLeod would find Trent Fox right on the doorstep to bang it in the cross crease pass making it a 1-1 game heading into the intermission.

Nearing the midway point of the second period it would be the Steelheads special teams going to work once again. This time while short handed the McLeod brothers would hook up with Ryan breaking in alone deking to the back hand past Lazarev to take the lead.

After Ryan Suzuki would get clipped by a high stick the Colts would get another chance with the man advantage and this time make it count.

This time it would be Luchuk finding Chiodo in the high slot one timing a bullet over the glove of Ingham to knot things back up at two.

Before the period was out the fish would regain the lead striking twice in the final 31 seconds.

First Owen Tippett would steal a loose puck right in front of the Barrie goal and make no mistake burying around a sprawling Lazarev.

With just a second left on the clock Michael McLeod would be awarded a penalty shot and would be successful giving Mississauga a two goal lead heading into the final period.

In the third, the Steelheads would push the lead to three at the 6:15 mark. On the powerplay Fox would add his second of the game again from the right side.

Just a minute later, Tippett would also add his second of the night giving the Fish a commanding four goal cushion.

The Colts will be off for the weekend with Game 2 going Monday night at 7:30pm.
