STEELHEADS: Game Day Storylines- vs Reading

October 26, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

Steel Reel The Steelheads wrap up a five-game home stand with three games against the Reading Royals, starting with Wednesday night's contest at CenturyLink Arena. It will be the Royals' first visit to Boise since January of 2009, when the teams split a two-game set. The Steelheads are 1-2-0 all-time against Reading.

The Steelheads earned a point in their last contest, an overtime loss at the hands of the Utah Grizzlies. Idaho scored four goals in the third period to force OT, capped by Charlie Dodero's first of the season with 2:20 remaining in regulation. The Steelheads have scored nine of their 13 goals over the last two games in the third period.

Finding Their Stride After being held off the sheet in their first two games, linemates Rob Linsmayer and Jefferson Dahl found their scoring touch on home ice. Dahl racked up five points in two games against Utah, including a goal on Saturday night, while Linsmayer had a four point weekend. Those two players skating with Caleb Herbert was arguably Idaho's strongest unit through the weekend. The Steelheads will need to find a new partner for Linsmayer and Dahl following Herbert's recall to AHL Texas on Monday.

Showing Some Power... The Steelheads power play is 3-for-17 in this young season, but has converted in three consecutive games. Kyle Jean's power play tally Saturday gave him goals in two straight games, and all three Steelheads goals with the man-advantage have come in the third period. Reading's power play enters the game 4-for-12, the highest percentage in the league.

About the Royals... The Royals are coming off their first loss of the season, but are winners in two of their first three games. The roster features nine members of last year's Royals squad, an eight-seed in the playoffs that upset the Toledo Walleye in the opening round. Forward Olivier Labelle is off to a hot start with three goals, all on the power play, in the first three games. Rookie Steven Swavely has two goals during a three-game points streak to start the season, while Ryan Penny has four points and leads the Royals with a plus-5 rating. Returning goaltender Martin Ouellette has played just one game thus far, but was ranked third in goals-against average and seventh in save percentage in 31 appearances last season. Reading was 20-11-5 away from home in 2015-16.
