Bethlehem, PA: Head Coach Chris Thompson and the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks staff are confirmed to coach in the third annual National Bowl Game presented by East Preps LLC. He and his staff will coach the "Blue Nation" team in the 3rd Annual National Bowl Game while former NFL Special Teams Coach of the year Mike Stock will head coach the "Red Nation" team on December 9th, 2012 at 1pm at J. Birney Crum Stadium.. He will be joined by Defensive Coordinator Kevin O'Hanlon and Assistant Coach John Zima along with other Steelhawks coaches.
Thompson enters his 2nd year with the Steelhawks organization after guiding the Steelhawks to a 4th place finish in the United Conference standings, along with their first ever playoff game. However, the Steelhawks lost to the eventual IFL United Bowl Champions, the Sioux Falls Storm in the first round. Prior to Thompson coming to the Steelhawks, he worked for the Philadelphia Soul (AFL) as the Manager of Football Programs & Experiences. Thompson also spent 6 years with the Reading Express Organization as a former Quarterback, Head Coach and Assistant General Manager. In his 6 seasons there he helped the Express to achieve an amazing 73-27 record. He had responsibilities that ranged from selling sponsorships/partnerships, group tickets, marketing concepts, merchandise, game day operations, and recruiting players.
Thompson has coached several players over the years who have made it to the next level, signing contracts in leagues such as the AFL, CFL, and NFL from the likes of QB-Bryan Randall, DL-Brian Brikowski, and WR-Collin Taylor to name a few. This will be his 12th season involved with professional Indoor Arena Football as a former player, coach, and front office personnel.
The 3rd Annual National Bowl Game returning to the Lehigh Valley on Sunday December 9th 2012 at J Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown, PA at 1pm. The National Bowl Game is an invite only college football all star game where 80 of the best college seniors from around the country are confirmed for this years game. Players are confirmed from schools such as Eastern Oregon, Texas A&M - Commerce, Seton Hill, and Albright. This year NFL Legendary Coach Mike Stock formerly of the Green Bay Packers is set to coach the "Red Nation" team as Coach Chris Thompson and his Lehigh Valley Steelhawks staff coaching staff will coach the "Blue Nation" Team. Sponsors include Susquehanna Bank, Optimum Scouting, Hokey A.A., Madness Training, F.A.S.S.T Performance, Team Swoll, and the Ramada Inn-Allentown. Canadian Football League (CFL), Arena Football League (AFL), United Football League (UFL), and indoor football scouts were in attendance last year and are set for this years game and several NFL teams request rosters, player info, and game & practice film. The National Bowl Game is also played for a good cause as a portion of proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Tommy Foundation to help its fight against Autism and a Zumba performance & dance to fight childhood obesity will take place at halftime for fans of all ages to join in.
