Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release

Allentown, PA: The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (5-1) come into this game needing to get back to the level of play that is expected, and they are capable of, after suffering their first defeat of the season. The number one seed in the North Division is still within reach, but they need to take care of business in their last two games. This Saturday they host Triangle Torch (3-3), of Raleigh, NC, in their second matchup this season. Kickoff is at 7:00pm on Embassy Bank Field inside the PPL Center.

In their first matchup, the Hawks' soundly defeated the Torch. In the absence of Lehigh Valley's leading scorer, WR Brandon Renford, WR Darius Prince (7 catches for 156 yds) took over - catching five touchdown passes, tying the Steelhawks single game touchdown reception record. WR Jerrell Young (2 catches for 56 yds) chipped in two touchdowns as well.

The defense had a great game as well, as five different players (Williams, Shirk, Hume, Frain, Neysmith) grabbed an interception, of which two were returned for touchdowns. The defensive front recorded two sacks but put QB Garrett Sutphen (19 of 42, 184 yds, 3 tds, 5ints) under pressure constantly.

But that was week two. Now in week 10, coming off their first loss of the season, Lehigh Valley needs to refocus and return to the level of play they are capable of in order to get the result they want. The Torch will test the Steelhawks' resolve to get back on track. Triangle's season has been up and down but they have been playing well as of late, winning two of the last three - defeating Winston and Central Penn and narrowly losing to Philadelphia after leading for much of the game.

The Torch has many veteran players on their roster capable of leading a quality team. The Steelhawks will need to play a full 60 mins of tough, focused football in all phases of the game to get the win. A win for the Steelhawks will clinch the team a playoff spot for the fifth consecutive season.

The game this weekend's game is presented by ESSA Bank & Trust, and the first 1,000 fans will receive a FREE six-pack cooler. Tickets are as low as $10 and can be purchased in advance or on game day at the PPL Center box office.
