Steeldogs Set First Tryout Date

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - For the eighth consecutive year, the Birmingham Steeldogs are looking for a few good men.
The Steeldogs' first tryout camp for the upcoming 2007 season will take place on Sunday, November 12 at SportsBlast Shelby County.
The tryout, which will include every position except kickers, will be divided into two segments. Linemen, fullbacks, tight ends and linebackers will register from 4 to 5 p.m. and workout from 5 to 7 p.m. Quarterbacks and skill players will register from 6 to 7 p.m. and participate in drills from 7 to 9 p.m. Kickers will not be invited to this tryout.
"This is a great opportunity for talented players all across the area to come out and see if they have what it takes to be a Steeldog," said Ron Selesky, the Steeldogs head coach and vice president of player personnel. "I've had the opportunity to uncover a lot of hidden talent at camps like these over the years and I expect to do the same this time."
Workouts for both groups will consist of timing and measurement in the following skill areas: 40-yard dash, 20-yard pro shuttle, and standing broad jump. Additionally, all players will be evaluated in position-specific agility and technique drills, one-on-one, and three-on-three drills.
The cost of the tryout is $50, with cash the only accepted form of payment. No checks, money orders or credit cards will be taken. The fee includes an official Birmingham Steeldogs training camp t-shirt.
SportsBlast is an indoor facility with AstroTurf surfaces, Turf or tennis shoes are allowed, cleats and spikes are not. Normal workout/training gear (shorts/t-shirts) is recommended. Please bring your own beverages. Lodging and/or transportation to and from the workout will be at the player's own expense.
