Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Five different Lincoln players tallied goals as the Stars (32-21-2-1, 67 points) defeated the Chicago Steel (22-25-4-3, 51 points) Saturday in front of the largest crowd of the season at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Max Zimmer scored both goals for Chicago in the loss.
Zimmer opened up the scoring with his second goal in as many nights. The University of Wisconsin commit buried a quick shot over the glove of Stars netminder Peyton Jones at 13:42. However, Lincoln began to build momentum as Chicago ran into penalty trouble later in the period. The Stars tied the game at one at the 17:03 mark, capitalizing on a 5-on-3 advantage as Collin Peters connected on a one-time shot from the left circle.
Lincoln took the lead in the second period as former Steel center Tanner Laczynski quickly deked to the backhand and roofed a shot past Chicago goaltender Daniel Vladar at 6:50.
The Stars added goals in the third period from Lukas Jaycox, Joachim Weberg and Biagio Lerario, while Zimmer added his second of the night for the Steel.
Lincoln outshot the Steel 32-26 in the game. Chicago had just one man advantage in the game, but failed to score a power play goal for a sixth consecutive game. Jones earned his 18th win of the season in net, stopping 24 shots, while Vladar stopped 27 for the Steel in the loss.
A season-high crowd of 1,707 fans were on hand for the game, which celebrated Chicago hockey on Chicago Blackhawks Night. Following a National Anthem performance by Jim Cornelison, two-time Stanley Cup Champion Daniel Carcillo dropped the ceremonial puck. Also in attendance were the Chicago Blackhawks Bud Light Ice Crew and mascot Tommy Hawk.
