Steel Rumble Back to Topple Fighting Saints

October 2, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - The Chicago Steel rebounded from an early 2-0 deficit and took control of the game in the second period, erasing the Dubuque Fighting Saints' early advantage. The Steel remained undefeated in the battle of the unbeatens, taking the game by a final score of 6-3 at Fox Valley Ice Arena on Saturday night.

Adam Karashik's first USHL goal broke the 3-3 tie. He punched through the neutral zone with speed and found paydirt through the five hole of Jaxon Castor to provide the game-winning goal.

Baker Shore started the second period of firsts by breaking the 2-2 tie early in the second period with his first USHL goal following a defensive breakdown. His backhander to the shelf found a way through Castor to make it 3-2 Chicago. He also notched the primary assist on Karashik's game-winner.

Walker Duehr and Greg Printz put the game away with third-period goals.

Patrick Kudla's first USHL goal tied the game up at three following Shore's goal. On a power play that seemed to fall flat, Casey Staum set up Kudla for a one-time blast that completely fooled Steel starter Tommy Nappier. Wyatt Aamodt took the boarding minor that led to the goal.

Kudla's goal was the first goal that the Fighting Saints have scored on the power play this season.

Regen Cavanagh and Jacob Semik got the scoring started for the Fighting Saints with back-to-back goals within two minutes. Both notched their respective second goals of the season. Reggie Lutz cut the lead in half just 11 seconds later following Semik's goal.

Mitch Lewandowski tied the game up at two on the power play late in the first period.

Castor had to be routinely good once again, as he continued to make big save after big save to keep the game close. He stopped 22 shots in his first loss of the season.
