Steel Break Ice in Third

March 27, 2013 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

It was a yo-yo contest in the first 40 minutes before the Chicago Steel added a pair of third-period goals to defeat the Indiana Ice 5-3 from the Edge Ice Arena in Bensonville, IL.

Tyler Pham recorded a pair of goals in the contest while Jason Salvaggio contributed two points (G, A) in the effort. Anderson Snair faced 24 shots on net, logging 20 saves in the process.

A pair of quick-strike goals gave Chicago an early 2-0 lead in the first, despite an even nine shots per team. As soon as the Steel, potted their second goal, however, Indy's offense immediately responded to knot the contest at 2-2.

Matt Roy tallied his first USHL point when the defenseman stripped the puck in the low slot and fed to rushing forward Salvaggio. Pham started with the puck near the faceoff circle before crossing the crease and popping the puck over the stick side of Alex Sakellaropoulos only 20 seconds after the Steel built a two-goal lead.

Vince Pedrie played the puck off the defensive zone boards to feed the attack into the neutral zone with Patrick Newell carrying it into play. Salvaggio added his second point of the night when he picked up the loose change in the crease to knot the score at 2-2.

As the same in the first, Chicago's Patrick Polino would score his first of two goals on the night to give the Steel a 3-2 advantage 2:15 into the second period.

Not to be outdone by Chicago, Pham potted his second tally of the night exactly 30 seconds after the Steel took the lead in the middle frame.

Immediately after the faceoff, Alex Talcott advanced the puck up the right wing crossing to Pham while flying up the slot. His wrister once again beat Sakelleropoulos for his second goal of the night and seventh of the season.

Both teams matched shot totals in the second and third periods, but it was a power play tally by Thomas Ebbing that would prove to be the game winner for Chicago with just over 15 minutes left in the match. Polino would strike again on an empty net to finalize the score at 5-3.

Indy wraps up their 2012-2013 road schedule this Friday and Saturday in back-to-back contests with the league-leading Dubuque Fighting Saints. Hockey action returns to Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday, April 6 as the Ice host Team USA U17 at 7:05 pm.
