Stawarz Earns Weekly Pitching Honor

July 18, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release

Jarrett Stawarz, a starter for the New Haven County Cutters, has been named the Can-Am League's Pitcher of the Week. He becomes the first player on the Cutters' roster to receive a weekly award this season.

During the week of July 11-17, Stawarz made only one start, but it was a memorable one. In just his third start of the season, he tossed a complete game, five-hit shutout with six strikeouts against the Can-Am Grays on July 12.

It was his second impressive start in a row. He pitched six innings of one-hit ball in his previous outing against the Elmira Pioneers.

The Burlington, CT native and University of Hartford alum has gone 15 innings without giving up an earned run and has lowered his earned run average to 2.22, the second lowest in the league. His win-loss record stands at 4-4. He began his rookie campaign working out of the bullpen but has recently established himself as a key member of New Haven County's starting rotation.

Stawarz is expected to start the team's first game back from the All-Star break on Thursday, away to the Quebec Les Capitales. His next home start will be during either game one or two of the Cutters' doubleheader against the Grays on July 26.

Tickets to all games can be purchased online at www.CuttersBaseball.com, over the phone by calling 203-777-5636, or by visiting the Yale Field box office.
