Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
JUPITER, Fla. (June 21, 2017) - RHP Cody Stashak (W, 3-3) spun six innings of one-hit ball with seven strikeouts in the Fort Myers Miracle's (33-35) 3-0 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads (33-35) on Wednesday night. The win closes out the first half of the regular season with the second half beginning tomorrow.
Stashak was dealing in Jupiter. After walking a pair of batters in the second, the righty set down ten straight before giving up his only hit of the night in the fifth inning, a two out single to Kyle Barrett. LHP Andrew Vasquez came in with a lead and fanned five of six batters faced in the seventh and eighth, while LHP Sam Clay (Sv, 3) took care of the ninth. The two hits allowed by Fort Myers' pitching marks the lowest total in a game this season.
The Miracle plated two of their three runs in the top of the fourth inning. After starter RHP James Needy (L, 0-1) issued one-out walks to Shane Kennedy and Zander Wiel, Alex Perez singled to load the bases. Tanner English then drew a four pitch walk to score Kennedy. Needing to throw a strike, Needy delivered a fastball to Rafael Valera on the next pitch which went to centerfield for a sac fly to make it a 2-0 game. An unearned run on two errors in the eighth brought in Fort Myers' third run.
Fort Myers begins the second half on Thursday night in Kissimmee as they visit the Florida Fire Frogs for the first time ever. LHP Lachlan Wells faces RHP Enderson Franco in the series opener at 7:05 PM ET.
