Stars to Close Regular Season against Gamblers

Lincoln, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (32-23-3) will close the regular season with a two-game set against the Green Bay Gamblers (36-15-7) in the Ice Box this weekend. Puck drop is set for 7:20 PM.

The Stars are second in the Western Conference with 67 points and a chance to clinch home-ice advantage in the playoffs. Lincoln has gone 18-10-0 on home ice this season and is led by Tanner Laczynski who is tied for second in league scoring with 63 points.

Green Bay is second in the East with 79 points and has a shot to win the Anderson Cup, awarded to the USHL team with the most points in the regular season. The Gamblers are 7-2-1 in the last 10 games and are led by Sam Saliba and Marc Michaelis who have 50 points each.

This weekend marks the first meeting between the teams this season. The Gamblers have won four of the last five games against the Stars. Lincoln's last win came on March 2013 in the Ice Box.

Stampede goalie Stefanos Lekkas made 37 saves to shutout the Stars on home ice. Lincoln outshot Sioux Falls 37-22. Peyton Jones finished with 20 saves.

Scouting Green Bay - The Gamblers are second in the Eastern Conference with 79 points and are in contention for the Anderson Cup. Green Bay has gone 7-2-1 in its last 10 games. Sam Saliba and Marc Michaelis lead the team with 50 points.

Stars vs. Gamblers - Friday will mark the first game of the season between the teams. Green Bay has beaten Lincoln four of the last five times they've played. The Stars last win came on March 16, 2013 in the Ice Box (6-2 W).

Playoff Bound - The Stars have secured a playoff spot for the first time since 2012. With two points, they will become the second Western Conference team to mathematically clinch this season, behind the first-place Tri-City Storm.

Get Your Fill, Gill - Mike Gillespie has thee goals and nine assists in his last 10 games. The uncommitted forward has 15 points in 21 games with the Stars.

Five players remain in the Frozen Four: Tommy Schutt (Quinnipiac), Luke Shiplo (Quinnipiac), Brad Hawkinson (Denver), Chris Wilkie (North Dakota), Luke Johnson (North Dakota), Paul LaDue (North Dakota) and John Simonson (North Dakota).

Going Pro - Six Stars alumni finished their college careers and signed professional contracts within the last month: Eric Scheid (Portland Pirates - AHL), Nick Cecere (Alaska Aces - ECHL), Colton Saucerman (South Carolina Stingrays), Lukas Hafner (Alaska Aces - ECHL), Frank Misuraca (Peoria Rivermen - SPHL) and Richard Coyne (Mississippi RiverKings - SPHL).

Good Feels - The Stars raised more than $21,000 for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy in their second jersey auction of the season on Saturday, April 2. The team's first jersey auction raised more than $20,000 for Make-A-Wish Nebraska.

Stick With Us - The Stars will wear helmet sticks to commemorate forward Adam Brady who was injured in a car accident and Tim Wyse, the father of Anthony, who passed away in March.

Man in the Box - Biagio Lerario leads the USHL with 165 penalty minutes and is tied for first in the league with five major penalties.

Home Cookin' - The Stars are 18-10-0 at home this season. They have the second-most home wins in the West behind Sioux Falls (19).

Stonewall Jones - Peyton Jones is 18-11-3 with the fifth-best save percentage (.920) in the USHL and a 2.38 GAA.

NHL CSS Rankings - Peyton Jones, Tanner Laczynski and affiliate Carter Long were listed on the NHL CSS midterm rankings released in mid-January.

Rock the Box - The Stars have sold out three of their last five home games with packed crowds on Jan. 30, Feb. 19 and March 5. The team has the third-best in attendance in the USHL.

Oh Captain, My Captain - Biagio Lerario was named team captain for the 2015-2016 season. Ludvig Hoff, Ryan Jones and Dylan Woolf were named alternates. The Stars seven-man leadership group includes those four players along with Adam Brady, Sam Kauppila and Christian Evers.
