Stars Shine with Six In Seventh

Huntsville, AL- Ryan Crew's pinch-hit single scored the go-ahead run in a six-run rally leading Huntsville (15-11, 52-42) to an 8-2 victory over Tennessee (13-13, 52-42) Tuesday night. The Smokies loss drops them two back of first place Huntsville.

Joe Simokaitis helped the Smokies tie the score by connecting on his second homerun of the season in the third. He then doubled in Issmeal Salas in the sixth and Tennessee lead 2-1. However his perfect night ended when he short hopped first base on a routine throw with two-out and a runner at third which tied the score at 2-2.

Huntsville jumped on Grant Johnson (0-1) for six runs in the seventh. He was tagged with the loss yielding all six earned on just two hits but two walks and two bit batters in one-third of an inning.

Berg allowed two runs, one earned, on five hits, while striking out five in his six inning start.

The Smokies will play game two of the series Wednesday Night as Paul Schappert (3-5) will go up against the Stars Derek Miller (0-0). Tennessee will be back at Smokies Park for a five game series with the Carolina Mudcats starting on July 23rd. Tickets can be purchased by calling 286-2300 or online a smokiesbaseball.com
