Stars Press Ahead for 4-2 Win over Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (19-20-0-1) jumped early in periods and were rewarded with a 4-2 win over the Omaha Lancers (28-11-2-1) on Saturday night at Ralston Arena.

The Stars capitalized on an early power play at 3:15 of the first period when forward Josiah Slavin followed his deflection for a rebound goal to take a 1-0 lead. Stars forward Ashton Calder found a lane to walk and back-hand a goal at 9:54 off the left post to double the lead, 2-0. The Lancers came back with two power play goals from forward Filip Suchy at 11:26 and 12:19, respectively, to tie the game at 2-2.

Just like the first period, the Stars pushed ahead early, 3-2, in the second period at 5:48 thanks to a wrap around attempt by forward Logan Jenuwine for his first goal with the Stars this season. Both team battled in the third period, but Stars defenseman Cole Krygier sealed the game with an empty net goal from center ice at 18:53, giving the Stars the 4-2 win.

Stars goaltender TomᚠVomá?ka (13-16-0) stopped 29 of 31 shots in the win, while Lancers netminder Zach Driscoll (17-6-1) halted 31 of 34 shots in the loss. The Stars finish the weekend at the Ice Box on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 2:05 p.m. against the Dubuque Fighting Saints for Faith & Family Day.
