Lincoln Stars News Release

Lincoln, Neb. - The Omaha Lancers gutted through a tight game en route to a 2-1 overtime win against the Lincoln Stars on Friday in the Ice Box.

The loss moved the Stars to 20-14-3, but the overtime point pushed them within one point of a playoff spot.

The Lancers opened the scoring at 4:34 of the second when Austin Alger emerged from the penalty box, caught pass behind the Stars defense and beat Josef Korenar to make it 1-0. The Stars responded by making the most of their next power play.

Eero Terî=A4vî=A4inen tied the game at 9:34 of the second with a shot from the point that sailed through the air before barely slipping over the goal line. The goal marked Terî=A4vî=A4inen's second of the season. Ethen Frank and Gustaf Westlund had assists on the play. Five minutes after Lincoln made it 1-1, Justin Richards received a five-minute checking from behind penalty that forced the Stars to kill a major penalty before the end of the second.

The teams traded chances in the third, though despite outshooting the Lancers 25-22, the Stars were unable to convert late in the game. Omaha sealed the victory one minute into overtime when Pierce Crawford backed into the offensive zone and slid a pass for Derek Hamelin to bury.

Lincoln finished 1/2 on the power play and 4/4 on the penalty kill.

Josef Korenar made 20 saves.
